Cause of Autism is quite an intriguing question. Scientists aren't certain about the causes of autism, but it's likely that both genetics and environment play a role.

Researchers have identified a number of genes associated with the cause of autism. Studies of people with autism have found irregularities in several regions of the brain.

Other studies suggest that people with autism have abnormal levels of serotonin or other neurotransmitters in the brain. These abnormalities suggest that cause of autism could be from the disruption of normal brain development early in fetal development caused by defects in genes that control brain growth and that regulate how neurons communicate with each other.

Cause of Autism

Still the question what is the causes of autism remain unanswered. Although these findings are intriguing, they are preliminary and require further study. The theory that parental practices are one of the cause of autism has now been disproved.

Autism affects about 1 in every 150 kids, but no one knows the cause of autism. Some scientists think that some kids might be more likely to get autism because it or similar disorders run in their families. Knowing the exact cause of autism is hard because the human brain is very complicated.

There is no single, identifiable cause of autism. The disorder seems to be related to abnormalities in several regions of the brain. Researchers have identified a number of gene defects associated with cause of autism.

The brain contains over 100 billion nerve cells called neurons. Each neuron may have hundreds or thousands of connections to other nerve cells in the brain and body. The connections (which are made by releasing neurotransmitters) let different neurons in different areas of the brain - areas that help you see, feel, move, remember, and much more - work together.Link

For some reason, some of the cells and connections in the brain of a kid with autism - especially those that affect communication, emotions, and senses - don't develop properly or get damaged. Scientists are still trying to understand how and why this happens and what is the causes of autism.

Families with one autistic child have a one in 20 chance of having a second child with the disorder. In some cases, relatives of autistic children show mild impairments in social and communication skills or engage in repetitive behaviors.

Children with symptoms of autism have a higher than normal risk of also having:

  • Fragile X syndrome, which causes mental retardation.
  • Tuberous sclerosis, in which tumors grow in the brain.
  • Tourette's syndrome.
  • Epilepsy.

There are lot of mis conception about the causes of autism. Some people believe one of the cause of autism are vaccines particularly the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR), as well as vaccines containing thimerosal, a preservative that contains a very small amount of mercury. But extensive studies have shown no link between vaccines and the cause of autism.

In many families, there appears to be a pattern of autism or related disabilities, further supporting a genetic basis to the disorder. While no one gene has been identified as the cause of autism, researchers are searching for irregular segments of genetic code that autistic children may have inherited. It also appears that some children are born with a susceptibility to autism, but researchers have not yet identified a single "trigger" about the causes of autism.

Other researchers are investigating the possibility that under certain conditions, a cluster of unstable genes may interfere with brain development resulting in autism. Still other researchers are investigating problems during pregnancy or delivery as well as environmental factors such as viral infections, metabolic imbalances, and exposure to environmental chemicals are the cause of autism.

Autism tends to occur more frequently than expected among individuals who have certain medical conditions, including Fragile X syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, congenital rubella syndrome, and untreated phenylketonuria (PKU). Some harmful substances ingested during pregnancy also have been associated with an increased risk of autism.

Whatever the cause of autism, it is clear that children with autism and PDD are born with the disorder or born with the potential to develop it. It is not caused by bad parenting. Autism is not a mental illness. Children with autism are not unruly kids who choose not to behave. Furthermore, no known psychological factors in the development of the child have been shown to the cause of autism.

The dilema about the cause of autism remains the same. Question still unanswered.
